Aesthetics: "Truth and Beauty"

                                                                  'Volcanic Sunrise', C.T. Rasmussen; 2011

Aesthetics (also spelled æsthetics) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty.[1] [2] It is more scientifically defined as the study of sensory or sensori-emotional values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste.[3] More broadly, scholars in the field define aesthetics as "critical reflection on art, culture and nature."

"Beauty and Truth have been argued to be nearly synonymous"' Wiki, I agree with this statement; as an artist I search for truth through tasks of rendering beauty in any artistic form I can.  I include mathematics, color theory, shape, scale, symmetry, anything that can get me there as far as this philosophy is concerened; I aim to maximize my experience through constant experimentation in these parameters.  Today I can safely say that I feel that I am on the right path to find truth in the world, thanks to all those who have collectively contributed to this study of truth and beauty and continue to do so!!

Art Reviews of C.T. Rasmuss

"The work is quite professional in that the artist knows what he is doing with paint, makes a composition with a visual idea in it, and executes it well."

Prof. Peter Plagens, Hofstra, Newsweek art critic; 2008.
"They were hypnotic...The surface detail of each piece is organic and colorful, starring at them one at a time gave me the impression that I was viewing microscopic divisions of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory."

ZipLine   C.T. Rasmuss,  Acrylic (2012).

"...“contained chaos”, small (8”X12”), mosaic-like works…Probably a dozen colors, glitter and strings of tiny black and white dots swirl in what looks like a bubbling pool of matter from which all life will spring."

City Beat, Kathy Swartz; Jan. 2012, (11-17).

"...much of his work is abstract; sometimes viewers see shapes or patterns not seen by Rasmuss, leading to further discussion and interpretation."

Sue Kiesewetter; Aug. 7 2012.

A Time and Place for Everything; New Modern Times.

New Modern Times C.T. Rasmuss, acrylic (2013).

I see it turning around for us starving artists, sooner than later; as the great Modernist movement was built in & out of the turmoil throughout the 1st half of the 20th century(particularly WWI and II), it is now our time in the beginning of the 21st century.

There always seems to come a time, throughout all eras of history, when we(as a whole) must finally wake up!   Today it happens to be the hyper reality we've built around us, and it's harmful by-products (ie: Industrial revolution greatly led up to problems in early 20th century).

Art can help reveal to the public, both the good and the bad; allowing its viewers and artists alike to discern between the opposing forces, forged outta the newer, overlooked present & also the past.  Visual art is the simple truth in which I believe must reveal itself evident and pure; it's time for us to take a leap of faith together with our best collective foot forward, as well as keeping our individual cadences..
I am participating in the mt. Adams Artwalk this upcoming Saturday, June 9th from 12-6pm; I'll be at the Tavern on the Hill accross from Longworth's, hope to see some of you out there! Here is the intinerary:

Art without any Salt

Fine Art created without any passion, resembles a cracker made with no salt; in that it serves a purpose, but with very little taste.
